We explored the Mass Audubon Broadmoor Wildlife Sanctuary in Natick, including the Charles River Trail and Glacial Hill. At the Wildlife Pond, mallards were surrounded, appropriately enough, by duck weed.
Elsewhere, hay-scented ferns were fading at the end of the season, and the calm day made for sharp reflections of clouds and bridges.

Mallards are really pretty. I saw some ducks on the Coast Guard Beach in Eastham and asked a knowledgable looking guy with binoculars what they were. He said promptly that they were common eiders -so I am adding them to my “known bird” list

Common eider are good birds to get to know. You’ll probably get to see a lot of them this winter.
